WD-40® Fans Have Their Say; 2000 Uses List Grows

February 28, 2008

After months of input and thousands of suggestions from WD-40® fans around the world on their favorite uses for the product, WD-40 Company is expanding its official list of 2,000 uses for the first time.

The Company is adding 40 uses to its official list, which was developed in 2000, by asking consumers to submit their favorite uses. Since 2000, people have had access to the official list through the WD-40 Fan Club, and WD-40 Company still receives a constant flow of uses coming from loyal fans, who want to see their uses make it onto the official list.

Now, the lucky new submissions are available at www.wd40.com/uses-tips/ and will be featured in communication to the WD-40 Fan Club and in media materials. WD-40 Company chose these uses for the brand from the most creative and innovative that were submitted. Fans will be encouraged to share the new, updated list with others via an e-mail campaign, and WD-40 Company will also begin communicating the additional uses in marketing materials and on the company Web site.

Some of the additional uses are: removing graffiti from latex fences, unsticking gummed-up buttons on air conditioners, lubricating hinges on windshield wipers and removing paint from dungarees. WD-40 is ideal for these uses, as well as for protecting tools from corrosion, lubricating oven door hinges, removing crayon from walls and keeping boat engine parts rust-free.

“We’re excited to make these additions to our world-famous list of 2,000 uses,” said Garry Ridge, CEO of WD-40 Company. “When we went back to fans and asked them to share even more ways to use the product, we knew our fanatical fan base would turn up to answer the call.”

WD-40 is available in three delivery systems: the WD-40 Smart Straw® – a WD-40 can with a permanently attached straw – ensuring consumers will never lose the straw again; the WD-40 No-Mess Pen®, the company’s pin-point application product, allowing consumers to use the product while on the run with less mess, no overspray and a lower odor; and the WD-40 Big Blast®, which offers a wider spray pattern and larger can size for jobs that require more WD-40.
